Well, sort of Scrabble. Three friends and I played in a tournament for charity this weekend, involving games based on Scrabble but with a twist. And our team--Rack Management--won first prize!! We paid $25 to enter, and each won $50 gift certificates to a local restaurant, the Glacier Brewhouse.
Round 1 required us to, as a team, use any or all of the letters to make as many 6 letter words as possible on the Scrabble board. We were scored based on the tile values for each word (without regard to the double-triple squares on the board). In Round 2 we had to make as many words as possible on the board, using all the letters EXCEPT the Es. We got one point for every word made. In Round 3, we had to make 4x4 boxes of words, and were again scored for the tile values. In Round 4, you had to place the word "THANKS" in the upper left corner of the board, then use as many of the tiles as possible to make words in any way possible. Teams recieved NEGATIVE points for the tile value of every tile not used, and a 50 point bonus for using all the letters. Throughout all the rounds, you weren't allowed to use any blank tiles without paying $5 (to charity!), and would recieve zero points for a round if you used a word that wasn't in the dictionary (the regular one, not a Scrabble dictionary).
Our win was very exciting and unexpected. We actually tied with another team and had to draw a letter at the end to determine the winner.
Subject change: last night, we went to another hockey game. It was just as awesome as the first one. I think I love hockey. And my coclerk Frank and his wife Jen brought their new baby Mattie for her first ever hockey game. She tolerated all the cowbells and airhorns like a champ, and in fact slept through most of the game. Amazing!

well i am closer to canadia than to the rest of the US, so it makes sense :)
