Sled doggin'

Last week, my coworkers and I walked down the road at lunchtime and watched a sled dog race. It was the first of two big sled dog races that start in downtown Anchorage every year. This was the World Championship Sled Dog Race, part of the yearly Anchorage Fur Rendezvous.

I learned that not all sled dog teams are composed of huskies (like the one above is)--there are some "non-traditional" teams that incorporate lots of different kinds of dogs. Anyway, it was pretty awesome to see a sled dog race on my lunch break. It was one of those "you know you live in Alaska when..." moments, which are extremely frequent, I'm learning. And on the way back, I got to have a reindeer sausage from our favorite vendor, who came out for the occasion. Also, I've never wanted to buy fur as much as I did when it was about -5 outside and I saw this rack of beauts.
